The title Entropvisions is in homage to my mother, the poet and art critic, Harriet Zinnes. In 1990 New Directions published a collection of her poems titled Entropisms, a word she made-up combining entropy - the tendency toward disorder - and tropism - the growth towards or away from a stimulus. Similarly, my short reviews combine entropy and tropism by suggesting growth towards a vision of art from the chaos of the art world. Through the back door, my title also pays homage to my physicist father, Irving Zinnes, whose long discussions with my mom got her thinking about entropy and tropism in the first place.

Etty Yaniv & Christina Massey at Guild Hall Gallery II
2022.10.8
As our weather abruptly jumps from hot to cold to hot, from drought to floods, with wild fires igniting even in upstate NY, the urgency suggested by the exhibition, Fire And Water, of works made from upcycled materials by Etty Yaniv and Christina Massey, and curated by Carol Salmanson , is palpable. Etty's massive animalistic creature is squeezed in by the walls as its threatening flames simultaneously push fire out to our space, while Christina 's flames greet us as we enter the room, setting the stage for the catastrophies to come. The smaller work also exhibited continues the drama in the back. The exhibit at Guild Gallery II at the Hudson Guild (119 19th Street) is up through Nov. 2.
