The title Entropvisions is in homage to my mother, the poet and art critic, Harriet Zinnes. In 1990 New Directions published a collection of her poems titled Entropisms, a word she made-up combining entropy - the tendency toward disorder - and tropism - the growth towards or away from a stimulus. Similarly, my short reviews combine entropy and tropism by suggesting growth towards a vision of art from the chaos of the art world.

As to be expected, the recent collection of shows that just closed at The Pamela Salisbury Gallery presented quite a diverse body of work which collectively clarified provocative intersections of intent. For me, the main intersection was an interest in design, and in particular positive/negative shape relationships. Each artist's work seemed to lead to the next artist's exhibition. Geometry clearly is of interest to Willard Boepple and Don Voisine. Boepple's free-standing sculptures allow multiple and complex formal internal movements that help support possible multiple readings with his wall pieces as well. With an even stronger geometric intent, Voisine's paintings are exquisite, perfectly-tuned constructions. His work relates to and brings out the love of design and positive/negative shape relationships found in Amy Pleasant's and Pete Schutte's figuratively-based works on paper. This figurative work then leads the viewer to Kamilla Talbot 's sensitively colored works on paper featuring trees in landscapes with a light and color that create metaphors of love and warmth for life. Richard Bosman's work, however, seemed less concerned with design than the other artists' and more concerned with narrative.
