The title Entropvisions is in homage to my mother, the poet and art critic, Harriet Zinnes. In 1990 New Directions published a collection of her poems titled Entropisms, a word she made-up combining entropy - the tendency toward disorder - and tropism - the growth towards or away from a stimulus. Similarly, my short reviews combine entropy and tropism by suggesting growth towards a vision of art from the chaos of the art world. Through the back door, my title also pays homage to my physicist father, Irving Zinnes, whose long discussions with my mom got her thinking about entropy and tropism in the first place.

Ligenza Moore Gallery: Inaugural Exhibition
2025.5.25
Ligenza Moore Gallery has given us a new, magical exhibition space in the Upstate New York world of wonderful galleries. Closer to NYC than is Hudson, Ligenza Moore is in Cold Spring, about an hour north of Manhattan, in the studio and glorious grounds surrounding the home of Tony Moore and his wife, Cynthia Ligenza. Yesterday’s inaugural opening day gave us mostly sunny skies, blossoming trees, and very strong art: metaphorical mixed-media sculpture by Kurt Steger, impressive large prints by Judy Pfaff, a personal history painting and collage by Garry Nichols, spatial geometries of Don Voisine, elegantly proportioned steel sculpture by David Provan, a mixed media piece by Chris Martin, evocative ceramics (and flash on paper paintings) by Tony Moore, mixed-media sculpture by Helen O’Leary, questioning site-specific installations (and a painting) by Greg Slick, landscape paintings by Simeon Lagodich, swimmer paintings by Katherine Bradford, a painted mat-board wall piece by Meg Hitchcock, painted tree-limb constructions by Marieken Cochius, cut steel by Cal Lane, and a monumental ceramic platter by Jeff Shapiro. Up through July 27, the exhibitions can be seen Sat. and Sun., 12-5pm.
